What is the problem with Alessandra Facchinetti...? 27/10/08

Is it the fault of the brands' or the designer working within? Is she really that difficult? She has created incredible ready-to-wear collections for the Gucci Group over a relatively short period, she has completed four stunning collections for Valentino, then arrivederci, ciao bella she's off before you can say Spring/Summer 2009. There are still many brands that could take her design capabilities on board, let's see where she will pop up next. We have to admit, she is clearly a bit of a trouble maker, but we also must take off our Philip Treacy chapeau and give credit where due, she is consistent. Her ability to upset some high profile executives at the world's top fashion houses, is no mean feat! Read more at WWD..

Where is Mark Lee? 26/10/08

A luxury question posits an answer. We read in WWD that after over eight years with the PPR Group, Mark will end his reign as President and CEO as of 31 December 2008. Mark Lee headed the Yves Saint Laurent group (which was owned then by the Gucci Group, part of the PPR Group) from March 2000 until November 2004, when he commenced at Gucci Group. The Gucci business has increased across the globe to almost 50% over his four year tenure.

Where to now, we believe he is a great catch and someone that could make a measured impact where ever he next resurfaces, apparently it is NY. Read more...

BALENCIAGA to revisit its fragrant past... 11/10/08

A new fragrance licensing deal for the historic BALENCIAGA brand with Coty Inc was announced 10 October 2008.

Cristobel Balenciaga founded his company in 1918, the first fragrance was launched in 1946, it was named "le dix". The fact the announcement was made sur le dix le dix I guess makes sense, non? The brand is forging ahead globally across the fashion and accessories business under the visionary and very capable designer, Nicolas Ghesquiere. The women's and men's ready-to-wear, shoe and accessory business has been expanding with strength globally, it therefore makes sense/scents (excuse the pun..) to push into the lucrative fragrance business as the Brand's currency continues to rise. Partnering with Coty Inc, also makes sense, it too is an historic Company founded in 1904.
